Reagent Cross References in USP–NF

Type of Posting: General Announcement

Posting Date: 31–Jul–2015

In an ongoing effort to better serve its customers, USP is launching a useful new feature that will first appear in PF 41(5) and in USP–NF beginning with the Second Supplement to USP 39–NF 34. This new feature consists of cross-references to reagents, solutions, and indicators. USP will add these cross-references within general chapters and monographs gradually over time. Each issue of PF will include some of the new cross-references within general chapters and monographs that are new or revised. It is important to note that USP does not have a completion date or deadline for incorporating all of the cross-references that potentially could be added. Instead, the new feature will be added incrementally where possible, on a rolling basis.

USP’s goal is to enhance the customer experience by making PF and USP–NF more convenient to use. The availability of cross-references to reagents, solutions, and indicators will add value to the publications, supporting customer efforts to maximize quality, efficiency, and productivity. Some cross-references will be linked to the official USP reagent, solution, or indicator, but other cross-references will not be linked (e.g., if the referenced reagent is not present in the same issue of PF). Wherever possible, live links will be included to bring users directly to the most accurate, up-to-date information on the reagent, solution, or indicator. Within print publications, cross-references will appear italicized to indicate reference to USP reagents, solutions, or indicators.

This new feature will also contribute to USP’s broader effort to create robust, cross-linked publications with greater connectivity. Questions and comments are welcome.
