Expanded Monograph Omission Initiative

Type of Posting: General Announcement
Posting Date: 17–Nov–2017

As part of USP’s efforts to continuously update the USP–NF, a list of monographs that may qualify for omission has been developed. USP plans to evaluate these monographs and, if appropriate, propose them for omission in the Pharmacopeial Forum (PF) starting in PF 44(1) [Jan.–Feb. 2018].

USP may propose to omit a monograph from the USP–NF if the article is no longer marketed in the United States and is not necessary to serve a public health need. Monographs may also be proposed for omission to address safety concerns.

USP invites interested parties to participate in the process and comment on these omission proposals as they appear in PF. This announcement is to alert users that a significant increase in the number of omission proposals will appear in future editions of PF.

Should you have any questions or comments, please contact Morgan L. Puderbaugh, Senior Scientific Liaison, at mxp@usp.org.
